The Carriage Barn

The carriage barn began life as an early 19th-century Cape Cod-style single family home incorporating a hand-hewn, post & beam timberframe. This timberframe was reerected and adapted into a carriage house by the Mount Vernon Barn Company. We raised the wall height by 5 ft. to create a spacious second floor which has a bunkhouse for friends when they come to the farm to hunt and fish. An accommodating porch was framed using hand-hewn posts and beams. The Mount Vernon Barn Company designed and built the cupola on site and installed the handsome standing seam metal roof. This is a very high quality roof that features a baked-on enamel paint finish that is guaranteed for 30+ years—after that the owner will maintain the roof like any other standing seam with occasional painting.

The mission of the Mount Vernon Barn Company is to save and repurpose one hundred 19th century Ohio barns and log houses so that they may be enjoyed by future generations and so that we might remember the great age of barns and the men and women who built them. Although the virgin forests of the Eastern United States are forever gone, we feel that with each and every project we are preserving a piece of them.

The mission of Mount Vernon Millworks is to provide an opportunity for local woodworkers to utilize locally-sourced wood to produce high quality distinctive cabinetry and furniture. We use reclaimed, zero carbon footprint wood in many of our projects and minimize the consumption of fossil fuel in the manufacture and delivery of our product.
